JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Soekarwo and Saifullah Yusuf were Wednesday (Feb 12) sworn in for a second-five-year term as Governor and Vice Governor of East Java province for 2014-2019 period.
Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi led the inauguration held at the building of the East Java Legislative Council (DPRD). Soekarwo and Saifullah entered the race with support from a big coalition of political parties, including President SBY’s Democratic Party, Golkar Party, and National Mandate Party (PAN).
Soekarwo is a key leader of the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the losing governor candidate of East Java province, had earlier asked the Home Affairs Ministry to postpone the inauguration, following latest controversial statements from Akil Mochtar (the dismissed Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and now graft suspect).
