JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Muhammad Nazaruddin, graft convict and former Treasurer of SBY’s Democratic Party, is expected to testify in a new trial of money laundering scandal related to the 2010 Initial Public Offering (IPO) of state flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA), Thursday (Dec. 10).

Nazaruddin has arrived at the Jakarta Corruption Court and he told the press that he’s ready to testify to the court trial.

In this case, Nazaruddin is alleged for committing money laundering through the purchase of Garuda Indonesia’s shares using the money collected by his company PT Duta Graha Indah (DGI) from the construction development of athlete dormitory project.

The case came to surface ever since Yulianis, former finance deputy director of Nazarrudin’s company Permai Group, testified to the court that the company bought Garuda Indonesia’s shares worth Rp300.85 billion back in 2010.

In previous case of the athlete dormitory, Nazaruddin had been sentenced to 7 years in prison. Besides Nazaruddin, the athlete dormitory case also dragged down a number of other Democratic Party’s politicians, including Angelina Sondakh and Andi Alfian Mallarangeng. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
