JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Though a little bit late, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s administration to temporarily freeze the disbursement of social aid funds until the end of legislative and presidential elections, to avoid any misuse of the funds.

KPK Deputy Chief Busyro Muqoddas, as quoted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (March 25), said that the social aid funds is vulnerable to be misused for certain political interests.

KPK Chief Abraham Samad, meanwhile, added that KPK’s supervision team has already been working to monitor the disbursement of social aid funds.

He revealed that KPK had sent an early warning to each governor in 34 provinces across the country over the possibility of irregularities on the disbursement of social aid funds.

The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) also voiced the similar concern.

For 2014, the government has allocated Rp91.8 trillion for social aid funds, substantially increased from Rp55.86 trillion initially set on the 2014 state budget. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
