JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Government of Indonesia continues to develop the renewable energy although the crude oil price is declining. The government will provide incentives for developing renewable energy which costs Rp402 trillion.

Currently the consumption of fossil energy reaches 95% of national energy consumption. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said Indonesia needs to develop the renewable energy such as geothermal, to lower dependance on the fossil energy.

Under the 35,000 MW power project, the geothermal use is set for 1,571 MW, bioenergy 1,656 MW, hydro 2,800 MW, and other 3,405 MW. The renewable energy covers 25% (8,750 MW) of the 35,000 MW power project.

State oil and gas company PT Pertamina allocates US$4 billion for developing renewable energy until 2019, of which US$2.5 billion for geothermal.
