JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – A recent data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) released on Friday (July 5) figured out that the death toll from Tuesday’s 6.2-magnitude earthquake hitting Aceh province has reached 35. The joint Search & Rescue (SAR) Team, meanwhile, is still searching for another 8 missing people.

Nine of 35 death victims were founded in Bener Meriah regency, while other 26 founded in Central Aceh regency.

According to BNPB, the quake also injured 275 people. While around 4,292 houses and 83 other public facilities were damaged. Head of BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, in a press release, revealed that all injured people have been treated at some community health centers (puskesmas) and local hospital, including the Muyan Kute Regional Hospital in Bener Meriah.

The magnitude of the Tuesday’s quake is actually lower than the 8.5-magnitude quake hitting the province in April 11, 2012. But based on the number of the victims, the Tuesday’s quake is the worst after the 9.1 magnitude quake triggering tsunami and killing more than 126,000 people back in December 26, 2004.
