JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Constitutional Court is expected today (March 20) to rule on the judicial review request of Presidential Election Law No.42/2008 filed by Yusril Ihza Mahenda, a patron leader and presidential hopeful from the Muslim-based Crescent Star party (PBB).

According to the official site of the court, www.mahkamahkonstitusi.go.id, the verdict trial will be held at around 3:30 pm of Jakarta time today.

Yusril, meanwhile, said that he hopes the court will grant a part of his judicial review request, among others to revoke article 9 of the Presidential Election Law which stipulates presidential threshold, requiring a minimum 25% of national votes or 20% of parliamentary seats for any political party or coalition of political parties in endorsing presidential and vice presidential pair.

As reported earlier, the court had on January 23, partially granted similar judicial review request of Presidential Election Law Effendi filed by Gazali Cs. The court, in its ruling, decided that legislative and presidential elections must be held simultaneously starting in 2019. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
