JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Arief Hidayat only got a light sanction in a form of verbal warning from the MK’s Ethical Council for committing an ethical violation.

The MK’s Ethical Council concluded that Arief has been proven guilty for committing an ethical violation by making a note to the Attorney General Office’s (AGO) junior attorney for supervision Widyo Pramono in order to asking Widyo to give privilege to the former’s relative.

Arief’s relative, the report said, currently serves at the Trenggalek Prosecutor office in East Java.

Arief Hidayat serves as one of the nine MK’s judges since March 2013. He then appointed as the MK Chief Justice on January 12, 2015, replacing Hamdan Zoelva.

Civil society groups earlier urged Arief to step down as well as urged the MK’s Ethical Council to drop heavy punishment to Arief. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
