JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced former lawmaker from Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) Democratic Party Sutan Bhatoegana Siregar to 10 years in jail for receiving a total USD340,000 bribe from officials of the Energy Ministry and the SKKMigas.
In addition, panel of judges, in a verdict trial on Wednesday (Aug. 19), also ordered Bhatoegana to pay Rp500 million in fine or serving an additional year imprisonment.
Bhatoegana has been proven guilty for accepting USD140,000 bribe back in 2013 from Waryono Karno, who served as Secretary General of the Energy Ministry. He has been also proven guilty for accepting USD200,000 bribe from former Chief of the SKKMigas Rudi Rubiandini.
The verdict, however, is lighter than the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) demand of 11 years imprisonment. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
