President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has on Wednesday (Dec 31) installed Ade Supandi as new chief of staff of Indonesian Navy. Admiral Supandi replaces Admiral Marsetio, who enters mandatory retirement age. Govt Cuts Subsidized Gasoline Price 10.6%

The Government has decided to cut the price of subsidized gasoline by 10.6% to Rp7600 per liter due to the downfall of crude oil prices. The new price will be effective Thursday, January 1st, 2014. The subsidized gasoline price was hiked in late November to ease the State budget, but falling oil prices forced the government to revise down the price from Rp8500 to Rp7600 per liter. Govt Penalizes Bakrie Telecom Rp50.7 Billion for Late Payment

Bakrie Telecom, the troubled CDMA operator controlled by Bakrie Group, recognized Rp50.7 billion of penalty on late payment to the ministry of communication and informatics in nine months of 2014. Bakrie Telecom reported no such penalty in the corresponding period of 2013, which contributed to the ballooning net loss to Rp2.9 trillion. Bakrie Telecom’s Loss Balloons to Rp2.29 Trillion

The troubled CDMA operator Bakrie Telecom (BTEL) booked net loss of Rp2.29 trillion in nine months ended September 30, 2014, ballooned from Rp1.52 trillion in the same period of 2013. Bakrie Telecom reported operating revenues of Rp1 trillion in the period, dropped significantly from Rp1.6 trillion in the corresponding period of 2013. As operating expenses down slightly to Rp1.4 trillion, Bakrie Telecom posted operating loss of Rp391.4 billion against profit of Rp100.8 billion in nine months of 2013. Financing charges inched up to Rp572 billion, while loss on foreign exchange translation dropped from Rp1.3 trillion to Rp232.9 billlion. USS Sampson Assists AirAsia QZ 8501 Search

JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – At the request of the Government of Indonesia and as directed by U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Pacific Fleet has authorized U.S. 7th Fleet to position USS Sampson (DDG 102) in the general search area for missing Air Asia Flight QZ8501 to support search operations. “Authorities in the region continue to lead the search and rescue effort. The U.S. Navy is working closely with the government of Indonesia to identify additional surface or airborne capabilities that best assist their search efforts,” US Navy said Monday (Dec 29). USS Sampson is scheduled to be on the scene later today. USS Sampson is homeported in San Diego and is in the midst of an independent deployment to the Western Pacific.
