At Least 340 Travelers Killed in Traffic Accidents during Exodus

JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) – The National Police have revealed that at least 340 people have been killed in 1,995 traffic accidents during the current exodus across the nation in the period of August 11 to August 17, 2012. Millions of people leave big cities annually to celebrate Idul Fitri, the end of Ramadhan fasting month, with family and relatives in their hometowns, known as mudik. Police said at least 487 people were severely injured from the traffic accidents. Lack of discipline from drivers were mostly the main cause of accidents. The accidents and lack of discipline also cost travelers hours of traffic jam. Some Jakarta travelers took 17 hours to arrive in Indramayu, which normally takes only three hours....

Papua Commission Handles Gubernatorial Election, Court Rules

JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) ??? Uncertainties surrounding the long-delayed Papua gubernatorial election will likely end soon after the Constitutional Court (MK) declared that Papua Election Commission (KPUD) has the authority to continue organizing the election. ?? The Court on Wednesday (Sep 19) also ordered the KPUD to re-open the registration of governor and vice governor candidate pair for next 30 days. The Court, however, asks the KPUD to also accept seven candidate pairs already verified by the Papua House of Representatives (DPRD) as candidate pairs of Papua governor and vice governor. They are Menase Robert Kambu-Blasius Adolf Pakage, Welington Wenda-Weynand Watory, Habel Melkias Suwae-Ev. Yop Kogoya, Lukas Enembe-Klemen Tinal, Noakh Nawipa-Johanes Wob, John Janes Karubaba-Willy Bradus Magay, and Alex Hesegem-Marthen Kayoi pair. The Court has on July 19 issued an interlocutory decision to order all related parties in Papua to temporary stop the implementation of the gubernatorial election stages. The dispute between the KPUD and DPRD came to surface after the KPUD Papua has questioned the authority of DPRP and the Papuan Consultative Assembly (MRP) to handling the election stages. The KPUD argued that it???s them which actually has the authority to handling the election accordance to Article 22E paragraph 5 and 6 of the 1945 Constitution, Law No 15/2011, Law No 12/2008, and Government Regulation No 49/2008. Gita Elected New Badminton Boss

YOGYAKARTA (Indonesia Today) – Trade affairs minister Gita Wirjawan has been elected new chief of Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) for 2012-2016 in a national convention of the association Friday (September 21). Gita got 31 out of 34 eligible votes. Icuk Sugiarto, reportedly supported by Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie, only got two votes, while one was abstain.?? Accident at Sumatra Gold Mine Kills One Worker

SYDNEY (Indonesia Today) – Kingsrose Mining Limited (KRM), controlling shareholder in PT Natarang Mining, confirmed that an accident at Talang Santo mine on its Way Linggo project, Sumatra has resulted in the death of a mine worker. “Operations at Talang Santo have been temporarily suspended whilst management and the appropriate Indonesian regulatory authorities complete a full investigation,” KRM informed ASX this morning. KRM owns 85% shares in PT Natarang Mining, which operates Way Linggo gold project. Late last year, KRM announced a maiden mineral resource estimate for Talang Santo totals 879,000 tons at 5.89 g/t gold and 14.63 g/t silver for a contained 166,400 ounces of gold and 413,000 ounces of silver. For the year ended June 30, 2012, Way Linggo produced 37,650 ounces of gold and 432,754 ounces of silver at cash cost after silver credits of US$254/Oz compared with the average realized gold price of US$1675/Oz. KRM then booked net profit after tax of A$17.6 million for the financial year. The company expects to produce 40,000 ounces of gold for financial year 2013....
