JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Attorney General Office (AGO) has today (Feb. 11) decided to stop their effort of prosecuting Novel Baswedan over a long-delayed persecution allegation committed by the senior investigator at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) during his years as police official in Bengkulu back in 2004, Kompas.com reported.

The AGO’s decision was revealed by the AGO’s chief for general crimes Noor Rachmad. According to Noor, the Prosecutor Office (Kejari) of Bengkulu have signed a letter about the decision to stop their investigation since today.

The AGO, in their considerations, said that they cannot bring the case to the court for trial due to lack of evidence and moreover, the case has already expired since February 18, 2016.

Previously, civil society groups and the supporters of the KPK have urged the AGO to stop their investigation into Novel. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
