JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Death toll from a 6.2 Richter scale earthquake in Aceh has risen to 40 people.

Data from National Agency for Disaster Mitigation (BNPB) said 31 people were killed in Aceh Tengah, while 9 others in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh province.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of information center of BNPB, said about 63 people are seriously injured. They are currently being treated at local hospitals, while 2,362 others were with light injuries.

The earthquake jolted Aceh on Tuesday (July 2nd), forcing over 22,000 to leave their homes. About 2,000 officers, including from the military, are being deployed to evacuate and search victims.
