JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has on Thursday (Oct. 8) morning visited the location of the drilling work for the underground section of the south-central Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line at the
Senayan roundabout in order to monitor the progress of the project.

The President reportedly was accompanied by, among others, Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and the CEO of PT MRT Jakarta Dono Boestami.

As reported earlier, it was Jokowi who kicked off the drilling work for the underground section of the south-central MRT line on Sep. 21, 2015. The first giant Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operated for the drilling work will create tunnel for the MRT line starting from the Senayan roundabout switch point to north towards Sudirman street. Three other giant tunnel boring machines will be operated later.

It will take 15 months until December 2016 to drill and build up 6 KM underground section of the MRT spanning from the Senayan roundabout switch point continue to north towards the Hotel Indonesia roundabout where the south-central line ends.

The MRT project itself was kicked off by Jokowi back in Oct. 10, 2013, when he served as the Governor of Jakarta. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
