JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The General Election Commission (KPU) has decided to extend the registration period of regional leader candidates for another three days to 14 regions as having no more than two pairs of regional leader candidates.

According to KPU’s Commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah, the extension of the registration period of regional leader candidates scheduled for August 1-3, 2015.

The said 14 regions are Asahan regency in North Sumatra; Serang regency in Banten; Tasikmalaya regency in West Java; Purbalingga regency in Central Java; Surabaya city, Blitar regency, and Pacitan regency in East Java; Timur Tengah Utara regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT); Mataram city in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB); Samarinda city in East Kalimantan; Minahasa Selatan regency and Bolaang Mongondow Timur regency in North Sulawesi; Tidore Kepulauan in North Maluku; Sorong Selatan in Papua; and Pegunungan Arfak in West Papua.

The KPU also revealed that around 810 pairs of regional leader candidates have registered themselves to the KPU throughout the
country.

The first ever simultaneous regional direct elections is scheduled to be held this year on Dec. 9, in 269 regions.
