JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Composite index of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) ended lower 0.49% at 4623 Monday (Feb 24) as profit taking hit. Regional markets also declined.

The index opened higher but was hit by selling pressure since mid morning trade, turning it into negative territory. The index made a small rebound in afternoon trade but one hour ahead of the close it was dragged down more deeply.

Astra International lost 2.87%, Bank Negara Indonesia declined 1.48%, Bumi Serpong Damai shed 1.27%, BW Plantation down 1.47%, Lippo Karawaci fell 1.05%, and Telkom declined 1.04%.

Among gainers were Bumi Resources (+1.53%), Energi Mega (+6.32%), Hanson International (+0.9%), and Wijaya Karya (+0.5%).

Nymex’s crude oil increased 0.23% to US$102.44 per barrel and gold rose 0.57% to US$1,331.10 per ounce. The rupiah strengthened to Rp11,728 against the US Dollar.
