TIMIKA (Indonesia Today) – Around 1,200 workers of three contractor companies of PT Freeport Indonesia – PT Jasti Pravita, PT Osato Seike and PT Srikandi Mitra Karya – threaten to strike for one month starting today (April 30) until May 31.

The strike is a response over Freeport’s rejection to implement the minimum wage set by Papua Governor No. 192 year 2012. The decision was effective since January 1, 2013, required companies to pay minimum wage of Rp11,850 per hour or Rp2.05 million for 173 working hours.

Three contractor companies of Freeport until now still pay minimum wage of Rp7,874 per hour. Freeport’s workers might postpone the strike if Freeport’s companies responded workers’ demand on minimum wage implementation of Rp11,850 per hour. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
