JAKARTA, Indonesia Today – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has issued regulation about establishment of karst area in Indonesia.

The regulation dated June 20, 2012 is designed to protect karst and control the use of karst area. According to Wikipedia, karst topography is a geological formation shaped by the dissolution of a layer or layers of soluble bedrock, usually carbonate rock such as limestone or dolomite.

Karst Conservancy, meanwhile, said karst is a geological term used to describe regions characterized by sinkholes, springs, caverns, disappearing streams, and underground rivers. These areas are significant sources of water.
