JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – In a verdict trial on Wednesday (Sep. 16) afternoon, panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Waryono Karno, graft suspect and former Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM), to six years in prison, lighter than the KPK’s demand of nine years imprisonment.
In addition, panel of judges also ordered Waryono to pay Rp300 million in fine or serving additional 3 months imprisonment.
Previously, the prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) charged Waryono with Article 3 and Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a and Article 12 letter b of the Anti-Corruption Law No. 31/1999 as already amended with Law 20/2001.
The KPK put three charges on Waryono Karno. First, KPK alleged Waryono for arranged fictive activities at the ESDM Ministry’s secretariat general. Second, KPK alleged Waryono for delivering USD140,000 to the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII through its head Sutan Bhatoegana Siregar.
And third, KPK alleged Waryono for receiving gratification worth USD284,862 from someone and USD50,000 from Rudi Rubiandini, who at that time served as head of the SKKMigas. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
