JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Violin maestro Idris Sardi (75) has passed away after a long battle with complications of lungs and liver desease.

Idris reportedly died at Meilia Hospital in Cibubur, East Jakarta on Monday morning (April 28).

Born in Jakarta on June 6, 1939, Idris learned to play violin before the age of 6 and at 16 took the position of his late father, M. Sardi, as concert master of the Radio Republik Indonesia orchestra.

Idris has granted a legacy of more than 2,000 compositions during his remarkable career as the best violinist in the country.

Santi Sardi, one of Idris’ children from his marriage to Zerlita, revealed that around one-fourth of her father’s compositions have not been digitalized yet. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
