JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Indonesia booked trade deficit of US$2.31 billion in July 2013, expanded from US$846.6 million in June.
Indonesia’s export reached US$15.11 billion in July, while import amounted to US$17.4 billion.
As a result, January-July 2013 deficit enlarged to US$5.65 billion, mainly due to huge oil and gas deficit of US$7.63 billion in the period.
Trade deficit has contributed to the country’s current account deficit, which is blamed for continuous pressures on rupiah.
In order to reduce the trade deficit, the government has recently issued four stimulus packages.
