JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The ethics council (MKD) of the House of Representatives (DPR) is expected on next Monday (Dec. 7) to examine House Speaker Setya Novanto related to further investigation into the scandal implicating the politician from Aburizal “Ical” Bakrie’s Golkar alleged of abusing his power by promising a favor to PT Freeport Indonesia.
The next Monday’s trial will be the third ethics trial conducted by the MKD to reveal the scandal. The MKD earlier has questioned Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said and the CEO of PT Freeport Indonesia Rear Air Marshal (ret) Maroef Sjamsoeddin in the first two trial sessions.
Businessman Mohammad Reza Chalid, meanwhile, failed to answer the MKD’s call to testify on Thursday (Dec. 3).
The MKD has also aired the recording of full conversation between Maroef, Novanto, and Reza Chalid.
In a related progress, the Attorney General Office (AGO) has started its investigation into the same scandal. The AGO has questioned Maroef for twice and seized his mobile phone, wherein the original recording of Maroef, Novanto, and Reza’s conversation had been saved. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
