SINGAPORE (Yosefardi) – Senior politician Taufiq Kiemas, husband of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, has passed away in Singapore Saturday (June 8).
TB Hasanuddin, one of executives of PDI-P, confirmed that Taufiq, speaker of People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR)—the highest legislative body in the country, passed away in Singapore at 6PM Saturday.
Taufiq’s health condition reportedly worsened after attending Pancasila Day on June 1st, 2013 in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara province.
Pramono Anung, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has also confirmed the news through his twitter account.
Born in Jakarta in December 1942, Taufiq was elected Speaker of MPR in 2009. His daughter Puan Maharani is now chairperson of PDI-P faction in the House of Representatives (DPR).
