JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) ??? Jaya Komara, suspect of Rp6 trillion (US$650 million) scam and owner of the troubled Langit Biru cooperative, has reportedly died in the detention center of Tangerang Police, Banten province.
Sutarman, head of criminal investigation department of the national police, confirmed that the scam suspect has died, Thursday (Sep 13). Sutarman, however, yet to find the cause of Jaya Komara???s death.
Jaya Komara was arrested in Purwakarta, West Java, on Tuesday (Jul 24) after he was named a fugitive for months. Numbers of Jaya Komara???s investors have filed a lawsuit against him, demanding him to pay Rp100 million compensation each.
Jaya Komara, has been named suspect in the Rp6 trillion or about US$640 million fraud related to his Langit Biru cooperative. Jaya could be charged with fraud and money laundering allegation. However, if police will use money laundering law, then they should be able to prove the funds deposited by the local people were wrongly used.
Police have earlier stated that the cooperative, which was established in January 2011, has accumulated ???investment??? funds amounting Rp6 trillion. The number is the total investment of 125,000 members of the cooperative until October 2011. (indra@theindonesiatoday.com)
