JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked the Immigration Office to ban Wardatul Asriah, wife of former Religious Minister Suryadharma Ali, from overseas travel following further investigation into haj pilgrimage fund graft case implicating her husband.

KPK’s Spokesperson Johan Budi also revealed that KPK has also asked the Immigration Office to ban five other people implicated in the case from overseas travel. They are five members of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII (overseeing religious ministry) as follows Gondo Radityo Gambiro, Muhammad Baghowi, Nurul Iman Mustofa, Siti Romlah, and Hasrul Azwar.

As reported earlier, KPK has questioned Suryadharma’s wife as witness related to corruption allegation over haj pilgrimage fund during 2012-2013 period under the Religious Ministry. KPK has also questioned Suryadharma’s son-in-law, Rendhika Dheniardy Harsono, and five Suryadharma’s brothers as witnesses in the case.

Suryadharma himself has been named as suspect on May 22, 2014, which prompted him to resign from his position as Religious Minister. KPK has charged Suryadharma with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 65 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
