JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Former Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali has filed a pre-trial petition to the South Jakarta District Court against the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) decision to name him as a graft suspect.
Suryadharma’s lawyer Humphrey Djemat said his client demanded the court to cancel KPK’s decision due to lack of evidences.
The South Jakarta District Court earlier has granted pre-trial petition filed by Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan against KPK. The court ruling concluded KPK’s decision on naming Budi as a graft suspect as baseless and illegitimate.
Back in May. 22, 2014, KPK has named Suryadharma, also former PPP Chairman, as suspect in the haj graft case.
KPK charged Suryadharma with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 65 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). KPK previously said they might also charge Suryadharma with the Anti-Money Laundering Law. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
