JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Graft suspect and former Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali is expected today (Jan. 11) to face his verdict trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court in the scandalous haj management.

Suryadharma’s lawyer Humprey Djemat shared his hope that panel of judges will release his client from all charges.

Previously, the prosecutor team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) demanded 11 years of jail term to Suryadharma.

In addition, the KPK’s prosecutor team also asked panel of judges to order Suryadharma to pay Rp750 million in fine plus paying Rp2.325 billion in substitution to the State losses.

Suryadharma served as Minister of Religious Affairs for the 2009-2014 period under Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) administration. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
