JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal filed by Anas Urbaningrum and dropped heavier jail sentence to the former Chairman of Democratic Party from 7 to 14 years in prison.
In addition, the Court ordered Anas to pay Rp5 billion in fine or serve 16 months additional imprisonment. The Court also ordered Anas to pay Rp57.5 billion in substitution to the State losses or serve 4 years additional jail term.
Furthermore, the Court also decided to revoke Anas’ political rights to be elected in any election of public position in the country.
The Jakarta High Court earlier reduced Anas’ jail sentence from 8 to 7 years imprisonment. But Anas decided to file an appeal against said verdict from the High Court that ruled in favor to him.
Previously, the lower court has sentenced Anas to 8 years imprisonment after proven guilty for receiving gratifications and committing money laundering acts related to several government projects, including the controversial Hambalang sport center. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
