JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Riefan Avrian, son of former Minister Syarief Hasan, for six years in prison, lighter than the prosecutor’s demand.

Syarief Hasan is former Minister of Cooperatives and Small-Medium Enterprises (KUKM) and Daily Executive Chairman of former President SBY’s Democratic Party.

In the verdict trial on Wednesday (Dec. 17), presiding judge Nani Indrawati read that panel of judges concluded Riefan is being proven guilty for committing graft related to the Rp23.4 billion videotron procurement project at the KUKM Ministry.

In addition, panel of judges also ordered Riefan to pay Rp200 million in fine or serving additional three months imprisonment.

Panel of judges also ordered Riefan to pay Rp5.392 billion in substitution to the State loses. In case Riefan cannot pay, panel of judges allow the authorities to seize the defendant’s assets or will order Riefan to serve additional two years imprisonment.

As reported earlier, Riefan has confessed to the previous trial that he is the one who controls PT Imaji Media, the tender winner of the Rp23.4 billion videotron procurement project. Riefan also confessed that he is the owner and CEO of PT Rifuel, another company participated in the tender.

Furthermore, Riefan confessed that he ordered his office boy, Hendra Saputra, now a graft convict in the case, to sign the contract of the videotron procurement project between PT Imaji Media and the KUKM Ministry, at that time led by his father. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
