JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Indonesian legendary rock band Slank ranks Joko “Jokowi” Widodo as the best presidential candidate to vote in July 9 presidential election as it believes to have new hope from presidential candidate Jokowi.
Jokowi, now serves as the Jakarta Governor, is promoted by a coalition of PDI-P, PKB, Nasdem, Hanura, and PKPI.
“Jokowi is close to people’s heart and humble. Jokowi is a figure who had been long awaited. Jokowi is a friend, not enemy. And if people are dreaming about a clean and good leader, please vote for Jokowi,” said Ivanka, the Slank bassist, in a press briefing aired by Metro TV on Tuesday (May 27).
“Insya Allah (God willing) Pak Jokowi will become our President, amen right,” added the drummer as well as the leader of the band, Bimbim.
Bimbim however said Slank wants its fans to freely vote as the fans have their own choices.
On Tuesday noon (May 27), Jokowi visited Slank’s home base in Potlot III, Kalibata, South Jakarta. In the meeting, Slank has delivered some recommendations to Jokowi, including 46 names to be considered to become Jokowi’s cabinet members.
Slank has more than 3 million fans across the country of which 1 million are registered as its fans. The band is famous for their social political concern, such as criticizing the country’s leader and the corrupt system. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
