SINGAPORE (Yosefardi) – In July 2015, Singapore Airlines’ system-wide passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) improved 2.1% over last year, against a 1.5% reduction in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres). Consequently, passenger load factor (PLF) improved 2.9 percentage points to 84.6%.
The competitive landscape continues to be challenging, and the growth in passenger carriage was supported by promotional activities in relevant markets.
SilkAir’s systemwide passenger carriage grew 16.5% year-on-year as compared to a 10.6% increase in capacity, as new routes were launched to Denpasar and Cairns in December 2014 and May 2015 respectively.
Consequently, PLF increased by 3.8 percentage points to 74.3%. For the East Asia and Pacific Region, passenger carriage growth exceeded capacity growth on a combination of the summer peak and the shift in Lebaran/Hari Raya holidays.
Scoot’s systemwide passenger carriage grew 12.7% year-on-year, compared to an 11.8% increase in capacity. Consequently, PLF increased by 0.7 percentage points to 84.8%. In July 2015, Scoot launched scheduled services to Osaka via Bangkok and Kaohsiung, bringing the total number of Scoot’s destinations to 15 in seven countries.
Tigerair recorded a 3.3% year-on-year improvement in its systemwide passenger carriage as compared to a 0.1% increase in capacity. Consequently, PLF increased by 2.7 percentage points to 85.3%.
Overall cargo load factor (CLF) was 4.1 percentage points lower as cargo traffic (measured in freight-tonnekilometres) declined 5.0% against capacity growth of 1.6%. Except for South West Pacific, load factor declined for all route regions as demand did not keep pace with capacity changes.
