SINGAPORE (Yosefardi) – In December 2015, Singapore Airlines’ systemwide passenger load factor (PLF) improved 0.3 percentage points to 82.1%.

Compared to last year, passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres)decreased at a slower pace of 0.7% against a 1.1% reduction in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres).

PLF improved for all regions due to healthy demand in the year-end peak, except for Europe, where PLF fell due to softer passenger demand, notably with a short-term dip in demand to France.

SilkAir’s systemwide passenger carriage increased 8.5% year-on-year, slightly ahead of capacity growth of 8.4%.

Consequently, PLF increased by 0.1 percentage points to 75.1%. Despite recording growth in passenger carriage, load factor for the East Asia and Pacific region declined 0.5 percentage points, as the increase in traffic did not keep pace with capacity expansion.

For the West Asia region, growth in passenger capacity exceeded capacity growth, resulting in a 1.3 percentage point increase in PLF.

Scoot’s systemwide passenger carriage increased by 38.5% year-on-year, faster than capacity growth of 38.0%. Consequently, PLF increased by 0.3 percentage points to 86.0%.

In 2015, Scoot launched services to Osaka via Bangkok and Kaohsiung, Hangzhou, and Melbourne, bringing the total number of Scoot’s destinations to 17 in seven countries, including Singapore.

For the month of December 2015, Tigerair recorded a 1.4% decrease in systemwide passenger carriage, in line with capacity reduction of 1.4%.

Overall cargo load factor (CLF) was 0.5 percentage points higher, with cargo traffic (measured in freighttonne-kilometres) increasing 8.9% against overall capacity growth of 8.0%.

Cargo traffic demand was boosted by a slight increase in number of ad-hoc charters mounted as compared to the previous year.

South West Pacific was the only region with an improvement in load factor with demand outpacing capacity changes.
