PADANG (Yosefardi) – Cement producer PT Semen Padang, subsidiary of state cement maker PT Semen Indonesia Tbk (SMGR), posted a 3.3% decline in domestic cement sales during 2015.
Benny Wendry, president director of Semen Padang, attributed the decline in the economic slowdown and lack spending by the government.
Semen Padang sold 6.52 million tons of cement in domestic market during last year, compared to 6.74 million tons in 2014. While export jumped by twofold (201.4%) to 370,440 tons from previous 122,903 tons.
Cement consumption in Sumatera rose 4.5% to 13.05 million tons in 2015, from 12.49 million tons in 2014.
While cement consumption in Java declined 0.2% and Kalimantan dropped 10.7%. National cement consumption is expected to grow by 5% this year.
Semen Padang holds 45% market shares for Sumatra and 12-13% for national market.
