JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Security forces in Jakarta are on high alert ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President-elect Jusuf Kalla in the plenary session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Monday (Oct. 20).
Chief of the National Police General Sutarman revealed that about 24,815 police officers will be deployed to secure the inauguration day.
Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI) General Moeldoko, meanwhile, said around 4,400 TNI personnels will be deployed to the Jakarta’s street.
Other than that, thousands of other security personnels from the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Presidential Guard (Paspampres) will also join the security forces to secure Jokowi-Kalla’s inauguration.
After sworn in as President and Vice President of the Republic at the Parliament’ building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Jokowi and Kalla are scheduled to “walk” in a parade planned by their supporters to the National Monument (Monas) and then to the State Palace at Medan Merdeka, Central Jakarta.
The outgoing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, meanwhile, has prepared a ceremonial at the State Palace to welcome Jokowi and Kalla. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
