TIMIKA (Yosefardi) – Evacuation team saw six workers trapped from the landslide at Big Gossan Tunnel, Mile 74, Tembagapura district Saturday (May 18). Unfortunately, the team yet to reach the victims due to the continuing rockfalls.
Kompas.com quoted Rozik B Soetjipto, president director of Freeport Indonesia, saying evacuation of six victims was hampered by rockfalls.
“The team saw six victims, but to get there and evacuating them, the team has to strengthen the structure because of continuing rockfalls,” he said.
As reported earlier, 38 workers were trapped at the tunnel, of which 17 have been evacuated, including five dead bodies.
Kompas.com reported that two workers, found dead, have been evacuated by Emergency Response Group of Freeport Indonesia Saturday midnight.
