JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Bank Indonesia Monday (June 9) released its survey that monthly retail sales index declined 1.5% month-to-month in April 2014 from -0.6% in March 2014.

The year-on-year index grew 16.2% compared to 17% in March 2013, slowing growth along with the public’s consumption reflected by the decline in consumer trust index to 113.9 from previous 118.2.

Year on year basis, most commodities expand their sales, excluding spare parts and accessories (-3.6%), other household equipments (-7.5%), and culture and recreation products (-7.9%).

On monthly basis, most commodities experienced a decline in sales, led by culture and recreation products (-6.9%) and vehicle fuel (-3.3%).

Retail sales for next 3 months until July 2014 is expected to grow by 1.9 points to 141.3 supported by strong demand during fasting month (Ramadhan) and Idul Fitri.

For next 6 months until October 2014, retail sales is expected to decline 3.3 point (month-on-month) to 131.9, due to lower demand after Idul Fitri.
