JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Non-active Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah, through her lawyer, is set to challenge the recent ruling from the Supreme Court that gave heavier jail term for the key leader of Golkar Party from four to seven years imprisonment.

Atut’s lawyer Andi Simangunsong said his client considers to submit a case review against the court ruling. Andi, however, said his client has not yet received a copy of the ruling.

Another Atut’s lawyer Maqdir Ismail, meanwhile, complained the court ruling as a form of violation of human rights over his client.

The Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Atut to four years in jail. Atut was proven guilty on bribing Akil Mochtar, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court and former Golkar lawmaker, related to the handling of post-election dispute of Lebak Regency. The sentence, however, is lighter than the KPK’s demand of 10 years in jail for Atut.

In addition, panel of judges also ordered Atut to pay Rp200 million in fine or to serve another additional five months jail term. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
