SEMARANG (Yosefardi) – Professor Soetandyo Wignjosoebroto, a sociolog and former Commisioner of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), has on Monday (Sep 2) morning, passed away at Elisabeth Hospital in Semarang, Central Java, due to complication from his illness.
Soetandyo’s family explained that Soetandyo has been treated for hypertension and nerve constriction at Elisabeth Hospital in the last seven days.
Soetandyo’s remains, as planned, will be flown to Surabaya, East Java, for burial at the Keputih Cemetery in Sukolilo subdistrict. Prior to the burial, Soetandyo’s remains will be brought to his private residence at Jalan Dharmawangsa 3, Surabaya.
Soetandyo left three daughters – Sawitri Dharmastuti, Saraswati, and Titisari Pratiwi – and five grandchildren. His late wife, Asminingsih, whom he married in 1965, predeceased him back in June 2005.
Born in Madiun, East Java, on November 19, 1932, Soetandyo was widely known as professor on the sociology of law and the founder of the School of Social and Political Sciences at University of Airlangga in Surabaya. In
