JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – More and more pressures flowing to graft suspect Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan to cancel his nomination as the new Chief of the National Police.
The Speaker of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Irman Gusman hopes Budi Gunawan to follow the decision from the Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Bambang Widjojanto that tendered his temporary resignation after being named as suspect by the National Police’s Criminal Investigation (Bareskrim Polri).
Similar suggestion are also delivered by Hanura Party politician Sarbini, former Deputy Chief of the National Police Comr. Gen. (ret) Oegroseno, and former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Mahfud MD.
Previously, the House of Representatives (DPR) has accepted Budi Gunawan’s nomination as the new Police Chief despite KPK’s decision to name him as a graft suspect.
KPK named Budi Gunawan as graft suspect related to suspected transactions found in his bank accounts. KPK has blocked Budi Gunawan’s bank accounts and also asked the Immigration office to ban Budi altogether with his son, Muhammad Herviano Widyatama, from overseas travel
KPK charged Budi with Article 12 letter a or b, Article 5 Paragraph 2, and Article 11 or 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 point 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
