JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has nominated Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Gatot Nurmantyo as the sole candidate of the Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto confirmed Gatot Nurmantyo’s nomination to the press on Tuesday (June 9).
In a different place, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Fahri Hamzah also confirmed that the DPR has received the President’s letter regarding Gatot’s nomination.
Later, the DPR will decide on whether or not to accept Gatot’s nomination. Should the DPR approve Gatot’s nomination, Gatot will become the next military commander replacing General Moeldoko.
Born in Tegal, Central Java, on March 13, 1960, Gatot Nurmantyo has still have three years left before enter his mandatory retirement age which would make him as the military commander until 2018. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
