JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – To celebrate the Indonesian national hero day (November 10), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has on Friday (November 7) awarded “national hero” title to four Indonesian national figures in Presidential Palace.
That four figures receiving the National Hero title are Djamin Ginting, Abdul Wahab Chasbullah, Mohammad Mangoendriprojo and Sukarni Kartodiwirjo.
Djamin Ginting, a figure from North Sumatera, was involved in fighting against Darul Islam/Indonesian Islamic Army in Aceh.
Abdul Wahab Chasbullah, a figure from East Java helped to increase Nahdlatul Ulama’s support toward Indonesian government during the Indonesian’s independent day.
Mohammad Mangoendriprojo, a figure from East Java Province, was involved in the Indonesia National Revolution in Surabaya.
While Sukarni Kartodiwirjo, another figure from East Java Province, was involved in drafting the Indonesian proclamation’s text and urged Soekarno and Hatta to declare the independent.
This is indeed interesting to see that three out of four new national heroes coming from East Java Province. Does it get something to do with the presidential election outcome where President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla securing up to 53.17 percent or total of 11,669,313 votes? Who knows?
