JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police deployed thousands of troops and police officers on the streets surrounding the building of the Constitutional Court (MK) in Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, to secure the verdict trial of presidential election dispute on Thursday (August 21).

The Chief of the National Police General Sutarman, as quoted by Kompas, said the Police has already deployed 22,000 officers since Tuesday to the streets of the capital city Jakarta, especially surrounding the Constitutional Court’s building.

The Commander of the TNI General Moeldoko, meanwhile, said that about 23,000 soldiers have also been deployed in Jakarta and other cities across the country to anticipate any violence and riot occurring after the court ruling.

As reported earlier, the Chief of Justice of the Constitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva said the Court will on Thursday (August 21) rule on a legal battle over disputed Presidential election which gave a victory for Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Jakarta Governor and politician from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Hamdan said the verdict trial will be held at 2:00 pm of Jakarta time. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
