JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Acting Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Hasto Kristiyanto, holding a press briefing on Thursday (Jan. 22), urges the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to establish the Ethical Council to examine KPK Chief Abraham Samad committed for the ethical violation, Detik.com reported.

In the press briefing, Hasto accused Abraham Samad and his team for actively lobbying PDI-P to nominate the KPK Chief as a running mate of Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, now the President of the Republic, in the 2014 presidential election.

Hasto, moreover, said Abraham has accused Police Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, now the Police Chief nominee, as the mastermind behind his failure to becoming Jokowi’s running mate.

Hasto claimed he has evidences and witnesses, including former Chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) AM Hendropriyono, to prove his accusations against Abraham Samad. “KPK must be led by those who are not tempted with political interest. KPK’s Commissioners must be free from certain interests,” Hasto said.

At the time of writing, there is no confirmation yet from the KPK Chief as well as the KPK. The tension between KPK and political parties, especially PDI-P, was heating up after KPK named Budi Gunawan as a graft suspect over suspicious transactions in his bank accounts.

Latest, President Jokowi has postponed the inauguration of Budi Gunawan as new Chief of the National Police following public outcry and suggestion from the KPK. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
