JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Brig. Gen. Paulus Waterpaw has just been appointed as the new Chief of the Papua Police based on the co-called Telegram Rahasia (TR), a secret letter, from the Chief of the National Police No. ST/195/VII/2015 dated July 30, 2015.
Prior to the appointment, Paulus served as the Chief of the West Papua Police. He will replace Inp. Gen. Yotje Mende.
Born in Fakfak, West Papua, on Oct. 25, 1963, Paulus graduated from the Police Academy (Akpol) in 1987.
The Chief of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim Polri) Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso told Kompas.com that the replacement is necessary to give enough time to Yotje Mende to focus on undergo selection test as one of candidates of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Budi, moreover, denied that the replacement is related to the recent incident in Tolikara, Papua. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
