The benchmark December 2015 contracts of crude palm oil (CPO) jumped RM72 (3.2%) to RM2329 per ton Tuesday (October 13). January 2016 contracts also gained RM71 to RM2356 per ton.
Shares of plantation companies, on the other hand, were mostly lower ground in the region. First Resources and Golden Agri lost 2.5% and 1.3% in Singapore, while Astra Agro Lestari down 0.9% in Jakarta.
Eagle High Plantation (BWPT) was an exception, gaining almost 25% with 240 million shares exchanged hands in Jakarta. Felda Global Ventures, the world’s largest producer of palm oil, which acquires BWPT, also gained more than 5% in Kuala Lumpur.
