JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – The opposition force at the House of Representatives (DPR) known as the Red-and-White coalition (KMP), engaging into its new maneuver, pushes the DPR to exercise its interpellation rights in order to ask explanation from the government over the decision of fuel subsidy cut.

Secretary of Golkar Party faction at DPR Bambang Soesatyo said on Monday (Nov. 24) that KMP members will hold a meeting this afternoon at around 2:00 PM to discuss its plan to launch the motion.

Bambang said KMP will later make a press briefing after the meeting.

KMP is currently a majority force at DPR whichs controls over 55% of seats. Five members of the KMP are Golkar, Gerindra, Democratic Party, PAN, and PKS.

As reported earlier, last week President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced his decision to raise the price of subsidized gasoline from Rp6500 to Rp8500 per liter or about 30.8%. The President also raised subsidized diesel fuel price from Rp5500 to Rp7500 or about 36.36%.

President said, the government will redirect the money collected from reducing fuel subsidies to finance more productive sectors, including infrastructure. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
