JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – A sad report came from Saudi Arabia as the Saudi authorities has executed to death an Indonesian migrant worker, Siti Zaenab Binti Duhri Rupa, on Tuesday (Apr. 14) noon in Medina.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi stated that the government has sent an official complain regarding the execution to the Saudi government.

Retno also said that the government will soon summon the Saudi Ambassador for Indonesia for explanation.

Retno said the government has tried their best effort to release Zaenab from the death penalty since three previous administrations of Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), Megawati Soekarnoputri, and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

Back in 2001, the Saudi authorities has dropped death penalty to Zaenab for the murder of Saudi citizen Nourah Bt Abdullah Duhem Al Maruba in Medina in 1999.

Other than Zaenab, the Migrant Care revealed about 290 other migrant workers are now facing similar death sentences in Saudi, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Qatar. (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
