JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Panel of judges at the Bandung Corruption Court has on Wednesday (June 24) sentenced non-active Riau Governor Annas Maamun, also Golkar Party politician, to six years in jail in a bribery case related to forest area conversion permit in Riau province.

In addition, panel of judges presided by Barita Lumban Gaol also ordered Annas to pay Rp200 million in fine or serve two months additional imprisonment.

Annas, meanwhile, has decided to file an appeal to challenge the verdict.

Annas Maamun had been caught red-handed by KPK’s investigators along with a businessman namely Gulat Medali Emas Manurung in a bribery transaction in Cibubur, East Jakarta, Sep. 25, 2014. KPK had seized Rp500 million and Sin$156,000 cash money from the transaction. Gulat, another suspect in the case, had been sentenced to three years in prison.

Other than Annas and Gulat, KPK was questioned Zulkifli Hasan, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and politician from the National Mandate Party (PAN), as a witness in the case.
