MAKASSAR (Yosefardi) – Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin told the press that Muhammadiyah that the second largest Muslim organization in the country considers an option of establishing new political party.
Din said the option is one of three option coming to surface among Muhammadiyah leaders in order to shaping the role of the Muhammadiyah in the future. Those three options, according to Din, will be discussed in the national congress (muktamar) of Muhammadiyah.
Muhammadiyah members have so far mostly affiliated to the National Mandate Party (PAN).
As reported earlier, the Muhammadiyah currently hold its five-day muktamar at the Muhammadiyah University in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The Muktamar was officially opened by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (Aug. 3).
In said muktamar, Muhammadiyah members will elect its new chairman for the period of 2015-2020 replacing Din Syamsuddin.
