JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Megawati Soekarnoputri, patron chief and chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has kicked off the construction of new PDI-P headquarters in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday (May 16).
Megawati, in her speech, mentioned about the July 27 1996 incident, a bloody takeover incident of PDI (previous name of PDI-P) headquarter. She said her party will continue urged the investigation into those bloody incident.
Treasurer of PDI-P Olly Dondokambey, meanwhile, explained that the construction of new PDI-P headquarters is financed by the donation of the party’s cadres. He said the party has collected about Rp2 billion donation. But Olly didn’t explain about whether or not the construction is also financed by people outside the party.
The headquarter of PDI-P was initially located at Jalan Diponegoro in Menteng, Central Jakarta. But after the July 27 1996 bloody incident, the headquarter is moved to Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. (haryantos@yosefardi.biz)
