JAKARTA (Yosefardi) – Panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Machfud Suroso, CEO of PT Dutasari Citralaras, to six years in prison for proven guilty in a graft case related to the construction development of Hambalang sport center project.
In addition, panel of judges also ordered Machfud to pay Rp200 million in fine and Rp36.818 billion in substitution to the State loses.
The verdict, however, is slightly lighter than the demands from the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) prosecutor team. Previously, the KPK’s prosecutor team asked panel of judges to drop 7.5 years jail term to Machfud. The KPK’s prosecutor also asked panel of judges to order Machfud to pay Rp300 million in fine.
Commenting to verdict, Machfud’s lawyer Syaiful Ahmad Dinar said his client is still thinking to either file an appeal or not against the verdict. Interestingly, Syaiful also urged the KPK to reveal the masterminds behind the controversial Hambalang project.
Machfud is one of graft convicts in the case. Other convicts in the case are, among others, Anas Urbaningrum and Andi Alfian Mallarangeng. Anas and Andi were once key leaders of the Democratic Party, a political party which now led by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). (haryantosuharman@yosefardi.com)
